Private Sector Housing Officer | Norfolk | Hybrid Working Opportunity
A highly regarded Local Authority in the heart of Norfolk is looking to appoint an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to support its Private Sector Housing team on an interim basis.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-run and supportive council with a strong track record of retaining contractors. The role offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement, with 2 days per week on site and 3 days working from home
.
The successful candidate will be responsible for a varied caseload across Private Sector Housing, helping to improve housing standards and ensure compliance with relevant housing legislation.
Key duties will include:
- Conducting HHSRS inspections and assessing housing conditions within the private rented sector.
- Investigating complaints relating to housing disrepair, hazards, overcrowding and poor living conditions.
- Managing and processing HMO licensing applications
, including inspections and compliance checks. - Carrying out property inspections and preparing detailed reports and schedules of work.
- Working closely with landlords, tenants, managing agents and other stakeholders to secure improvements to housing standards.
- Taking enforcement action where necessary, including serving statutory notices and ensuring compliance with legislation.
- Supporting wider Private Sector Housing functions and contributing to the delivery of the council's housing standards objectives.
To be considered, you should have:
- Previous experience working as a Private Sector Housing Officer within a Local Authority.
- Strong knowledge of HHSRS
, housing enforcement legislation and Private Sector Housing procedures. - Experience of HMO licensing and housing inspections.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload effectively.
- A proactive approach and the ability to work independently.
