MSK Foot and Ankle Biomechanics Orthotic TechnicianThe closing date is 27 July 2026
We're looking for a suitable candidate to become a Band 4 Lab technician within our Foot and Ankle Biomechanics team. This is a high quality, patient-centred and innovative service.
This role involves manufacturing insoles and orthotic devices prescribed by MSK Foot and ankle clinicians within the Biomechanics laboratory. The successful applicant will need to contribute to the delivery of high standards of health care to patients with MSK foot and ankle conditions.
They will be required to manufacture orthotics for patients, evaluating the fit, problem solving adjustments and implementing them when within scope of practice.
Flexible hours are an option for this role.

Main duties of the jobYou will contribute in the delivery of high standards of health care to patients with MSK Foot and Ankle conditions with the production of insoles and orthotic devises alongside fitting new orthotics, using assessment and fitting techniques with routine MSK Biomechanics conditions, working autonomously within clinical competencies.
About usNorfolk and Waveney Community Musculoskeletal Services (NoW MSK) is a collaborative service between East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust, and East Coast Community Healthcare CIC (ECCH), providing MSK services to patients within Norfolk and Waveney.
The NoW MSK Service's team comprises:
Extended Scope Practitioners, First Contact Practitioners, Physiotherapists, Specialist Hand therapy Occupational Therapists, Specialist Biomechanics Podiatrists and MSK Assistant Practitioners.
- To provide a high standard of insole and orthotic manufacture through the development of specialised skills
- Fitting new orthotics, using assessment and fitting techniques with routine MSK Biomechanics conditions, working autonomously within clinical competencies
- Work when needed in a variety of locations including lone working
- Engage with System One Optimisation
- To be aware of the demand and capacity model which will reflect workload needs at any given time

Qualifications- Good general education i.e GCSEs or equivalent grade C or above in English and Maths
- Experience and education to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent job skills
- Experience of working in a healthcare environment
- Experience of working within the NHS
- Demonstration of manual dexterity work
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to pass on skills / knowledge to other staff within both formal and informal environments, and to evaluate the application to practice
- Able to identify with the Trust's commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults
- Able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service
- Must hold a full driving licence valid in the UK or be able to make own travelling arrangements to fulfil the duties of the post
- Previous experience working manufacturing bespoke products from prescriptions/ various instructions
- Evidence of previous experience using cutting and grinding machinery
- Self-Directed learning
- Communication skills or coaching training
- Critical appraisal skills Competent use of IT
