BAND 6 OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST - EARLY INTERVENTION TEAM Permanent | Full Time We are pleased to offer an opportunity to join our forward-thinking Integrated Therapy Team, consisting of occupational therapists, physiotherapists, dietitians and assistants working seamlessly together. The Early Intervention Therapy Team covers Accident and Emergency, the Acute Medical Unit and the new Same Day Emergency Care Unit primarily. You will receive protected time for supervision, training and skill development within each specialism provided by supportive clinicians, along with opportunities to build on skills such as student/junior supervision, audit and service development.

We have a strong reputation for home grown career progression through welcoming every new team member and supporting them to settle, develop and grow., As a Band 6 Occupational Therapist you will be responsible for providing holistic therapy assessments to patients on the emergency floor to support admission avoidance and early therapy input.

The caseload consists of patients with a variety of conditions who may also require assessment of social need. Good prioritisation, organisational and time management skills is needed to balance clinical and non-clinical duties. You will be responsible for liaising with members of the wider multidisciplinary team including the Integrated Discharge Team, Accident and Emergency Department co-ordinators and specialist teams to facilitate discharge and problem solve therapy related delay.

The role also includes triaging and negotiating referrals received from the medical and ward teams to ensure they are appropriate. You will be responsible for non-clinical duties, including participating in team meetings, in-service development, training and supervision of students, assistant staff and Band 5 colleagues. You will be key to being actively involved in the measurement and evaluation of your work and current practices using Evidence Based Practice projects, audit and outcome measures.

There will be opportunities to work on group projects with your Band 6 peers. The Early Intervention Team provides a 7-day rostered service. The post-holder would be welcome to take advantage of flexible working and may form a pattern to include a one-in-two, or greater, occurrence of weekend shifts.,

  • To be responsible for delivering multidisciplinary therapy assessment and treatment of patients within Accident and Emergency, the Acute Medical Unit and the new Same Day Emergency Care Unit
  • To support the service caseload, leading on patients with complex presentations and maintain own records as an autonomous practitioner, balancing clinical and team demands
  • To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work including a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management; and assist junior staff, support staff and students to do so
  • To assess capacity, gain informed consent and can work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment and support junior staff to do the same
  • To provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers, schools, workplaces and other professionals, to promote understanding of the aims of Occupational Therapy to ensure a consistent approach to patient care
  • To provide the department with Occupational Therapy support when clinical pressures indicate need
  • To work a rostered seven-day service within the James Paget University Hospital or in a community health setting as required
