We have a great opportunity for an individual to join us and undertake academic, practical, and professional training to become a fully qualified Environmental Health Officer and work as an apprentice to gain experience across all core areas of environmental health practice.

You will be expected to study for your Level 6 Environmental Health Batchelor of Science degree course alongside your day-to-day role; for which you will be given study time during your working hours.

As an apprentice, you’ll work across a broad range of environmental health areas—including Housing Standards, Food Safety and Licensing, Community and Environmental Protection, and Public Health. On successful completion of the programme, you’ll achieve professional status as an Environmental Health Practitioner, accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).

Working under the supervision of experienced council officers throughout the apprenticeship, you will apply learning to real situations and contribute to protecting and promoting the health, safety, and wellbeing, of local people, communities and the environment.

The successful applicant will be good at managing their time to meet deadlines and an ability to communicate effectively with a range of people. You will be able to monitor and manage performance to achieve objectives.

You will also need to meet the minimum entry requirements for this Environmental Health (Apprenticeship) Batchelor of Science degree apprenticeship with the University of Suffolk commencing January 2027. This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of the Environmental Health Skills Network, a collaborative initiative bringing together organisations from across the public and private sectors. You will have the opportunity to take part in work placements with other network partners, providing valuable insight into a range of Environmental Health environments and broadening your professional experience.

Through studying alongside fellow Environmental Health apprentices from across the consortium, you will become part of a supportive peer network, enabling the sharing of knowledge, experiences and learning throughout the programme. This collaborative approach helps develop a broader understanding of the Environmental Health profession while building strong professional connections across the sector.

Closing Date: 30th September 2026

Interview Date: 8th October 2026
