HR Manager / HR Advisor £40-£50k

Location: Lowestoft / Norwich

Hours: Part time however would accept full time applications as well

Our client is a growing company with exciting growth plans for the next 5 years. This is the perfect time to join them and be part of the SLT.

We are seeking an experienced HR Manager / HR Advisor to take responsibility for the full scope of HR activity across the firm.

This is a standalone role-ideal for a confident, hands-on HR professional comfortable working across both strategic and operational levels.

You will act as the firm's primary HR contact, providing trusted advice to partners and managers while leading on HR administration, compliance, and people initiatives.

HR Advisory & Compliance

  • Act as the firm's sole HR adviser, offering practical, legally compliant guidance across all HR matters.
  • Advise on employee relations, including absence, performance, capability, conduct, grievances, and disciplinary issues.
  • Draft, update, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and the employee handbook in line with UK employment law and best practice.
  • Monitor changes in employment legislation and proactively advise on required actions.
  • Support restructures, organisational development, and role changes.
  • Identify when external legal or specialist HR input is required and manage liaison as needed.

HR Operations

  • Manage day-to-day HR administration across the entire employee lifecycle.
  • Oversee inductions, onboarding, contracts, holiday and sickness processes, training records, and personnel files.
  • Lead on the development and accuracy of the Sage HR system.
  • Act as the first point of contact for employee HR queries.
  • Maintain CPD and training records and coordinate external training bookings.
  • Support recruitment administration, including interviews and assessment centres (e.g., apprenticeships).

People Development & Culture

  • Support the appraisal, performance review, and development processes.
  • Contribute to wellbeing, engagement, and retention initiatives.
  • Advise on learning and development needs and help implement appropriate solutions.
  • Assist staff in identifying development needs and arranging training courses.

Internal Communications

  • Manage internal communications relating to HR updates and people-related announcements.
  • From mid-2026, support HR-related content updates for the firm's intranet.

Essential

  • Significant experience in a generalist HR role at Advisor or Manager level.
  • Strong, up-to-date knowledge of UK employment law, with confidence to operate autonomously.
  • Experience working as a standalone HR professional or within a small, autonomous team.
  • Proven ability in managing employee relations cases end to end.
  • Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail.
  • Professional, discreet, and trusted, with strong confidentiality.
  • Confident, pragmatic communicator able to advise senior stakeholders.
  • Desirable
  • Experience in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Experience supporting apprenticeships or early-career programmes.
  • CIPD Level 5+
  • Pragmatic, commercially aware, and solutions-focused.
  • Comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on administration.
  • Approachable, steady, and resilient under pressure.
  • Takes full ownership of the HR function.
