Position: People Adviser - ER

Are you passionate about helping managers navigate complex people issues and creating positive workplace outcomes? We have 2 FTE opportunities and we’re looking for experienced and proactive HR professionals to join our newly formed People Services team as a People Adviser – Employee Relations. This is an exciting opportunity to join us in these newly created roles as part of our redesigned People Services operating model.

You’ll work closely with managers across the Council, helping them navigate complex people issues, build management capability and create positive working environments where employees can thrive.

This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You’ll work on a broad range of people matters and play an important role in supporting managers to make informed, confident and fair decisions. From advising on complex employee relations matters and supporting organisational change, to coaching managers and identifying practical solutions to people challenges, you will deliver a professional, customer-focused and solutions-driven People service.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships, influencing decisions and making a genuine difference to employee experience, organisational performance and workforce wellbeing.

Job Description

A People Adviser – Employee Relations will provide professional advice and guidance to managers and employees, ensuring people matters are managed fairly, consistently and in line with employment legislation, council policies and best practice. Working as part of a collaborative People Services team, you will manage a varied employee relations caseload, support organisational change and consultation activity, contribute to policy development and help build management capability through coaching, training and advice.

You will also use workforce information and insights to identify trends, manage risks and support continuous improvement across the organisation.

Responsibilities
  • Provide professional employee relations advice and guidance to managers and employees
  • Manage a varied employee relations caseload, including disciplinary, grievance, attendance, capability, probation, flexible working and dignity at work matters
  • Support managers through formal and informal employee relations processes, encouraging early intervention and resolution
  • Attend hearings, appeals, consultations and meetings, providing professional advice and identifying risks
  • Support organisational change, workforce transformation and consultation activities
  • Contribute to the development, review and implementation of People policies, procedures and guidance
  • Deliver training, coaching and briefings to managers on employee relations matters
  • Analyse employee relations data, identify trends and make recommendations for improvement
  • Build positive relationships with managers, employees, trade unions and key stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate case records and management information, ensuring compliance with data protection requirements
Skills Required
  • Experience providing employee relations advice and guidance to managers
  • Experience managing a range of employee relations casework, including disciplinary, grievance, attendance and capability matters
