Overview

The John Innes Centre (JIC) is one of the world’s leading research institutes in plant and microbial science. The Next Generation Infrastructure (NGI) Programme is a £400m+ transformation programme that will create a new laboratory and infrastructure to support advanced research, training and teaching at the Norwich Research Park.

Role Summary

The NGI Benefits Manager will play a critical role in ensuring that the programme delivers clear, measurable and sustained value. Acting as the single point of accountability for benefits management, the role will establish and embed an end‑to‑end benefits framework that links investment decisions to realised outcomes. The postholder will work closely with the NGI Programme Director, Senior Business Change Manager and SRO to ensure that benefits are defined, prioritised, measured and managed across all work streams.

Key responsibilities include developing outcomes‑focused KPIs, overseeing benefits reporting to internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring benefits are sustained beyond programme completion to meet government and funding expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and embed a comprehensive benefits management framework for a large‑scale, multi‑year transformation programme.
  • Define measurable outcomes and prioritise benefits in alignment with investment decisions.
  • Lead the development and tracking of outcomes‑focused KPIs across all work streams.
  • Report benefits to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Ensure benefits are maintained and sustained beyond programme completion in line with funding requirements.
  • Collaborate with programme leadership and change managers to integrate benefits management into programme delivery.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven experience leading benefits management within large, complex transformational change programmes.
  • Track record of establishing benefits frameworks, defining measurable outcomes, and embedding benefits across delivery and organisational change.
  • Experience in scientific, academic, infrastructure or similarly complex environments is advantageous but not essential.
  • Strong analytical and stakeholder‑management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a flexible, hybrid work pattern.
