We are currently recruiting for an experienced Bodyshop Paint Repair Technician to join a leading rail engineering organisation in Norwich, supporting the maintenance and presentation of one of the UK's most modern passenger train fleets.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled paint technician, automotive paint sprayer, SMART repair technician, or bodyshop professional looking to apply their expertise within the rail industry.
The Role
Working as part of a specialist production team, you will be responsible for inspecting, preparing, repairing, and refinishing paint defects on modern passenger rolling stock, ensuring vehicles are maintained to the highest cosmetic and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect and assess vehicles for paint defects, damage, and cosmetic deterioration.
Determine repair requirements and select the most appropriate repair methods.
Carry out all aspects of surface preparation, including sanding, masking, feathering, filling, and cleaning.
Undertake paint repairs and refinishing activities to restore vehicles to a high-quality standard.
Mix and apply paints, primers, lacquers, and approved coating systems.
Perform colour matching and blending to achieve seamless finishes.
Complete polishing, rectification, and final quality inspections.
Ensure all work is completed in accordance with approved procedures and quality standards.
Accurately document completed repairs and work activities.
Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas to high housekeeping standards.
Work collaboratively with production, maintenance, and quality teams to achieve delivery targets.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and fleet appearance programmes.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
Time-served Paint Sprayer or Bodyshop Technician.
Proven experience in paint preparation, application, and finishing techniques.
Strong understanding of paint repair processes and coating systems.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Ability to work from technical procedures and repair standards.
Strong awareness of health, safety, and risk management practices.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Comfortable working rotating day and night shifts.
Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
A passion for continuous improvement and delivering high standards of workmanship.
Desirable:
SMART repair experience.
Previous experience within rail, automotive, commercial vehicle, aerospace, or industrial paint environments.
Experience working to production or quality targets.
Knowledge of defect identification and cosmetic inspection processes.
