Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse in Respiratory

An exciting opportunity has become available within our respiratory ward. We are an award winning, friendly and dynamic area caring for a diverse group of patients with a special interest in Respiratory. We pride ourselves in providing excellent care to our patients who comprise primarily Respiratory patients. You will be responsible for coordinating and managing an acute ward on a daily basis.

You will be expected to be involved in clinical audit, absence management as well as supporting staff well-being.

An element of your role will include overseeing education and support for new starters and learners. The daily safety of the ward is paramount and we would hope the successful candidate is able to have oversight of the smooth running of this busy clinical area, whilst striving for constant improvement and change.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will preferably have acute experience in Respiratory Medicine, drawing on previous skills and experience. The ability to empathize with patients and be a role model for others is a must. We are a close and hard-working team, and so the ability to be a team player and to strive for the highest standards is essential.

Job responsibilities

1. Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and work within limits of competence.

2. Assist the Ward/Department manager in maintaining standards of nursing practice.

3. Carry out and advise/supervise junior staff in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluating of nursing care.

4. Carry out the daily personal care of patients.

5. To take charge of the clinical area in the absence of the Ward/Department Sister/ Charge Nurse.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC register
  • Post registration qualification relevant to the clinical area
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and maintenance of a personal professional file
  • Post registration qualification relevant to the clinical area
Experience
  • Significant experience at Band 5 level or equivalent, of which some is to be in a position relevant to the specialty
  • Experience of managing and leading a clinical area
  • Experience in change management
Skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competency in advanced clinical skills including enhanced practice
  • Organisational and time management skills
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit/patient review
  • Effective role model, demonstrating NNUH's PRIDE values of People focussed, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence
