Lead a Service That Gives Young People a Place to Call Home

At YMCA Norfolk, we help young people overcome homelessness, build confidence and develop the skills they need to live independently.

We are looking for an exceptional Housing Manager to lead My Place, one of our housing services. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced housing professional to step into a rewarding leadership role where you can make a genuine difference every day.

As Housing Manager, you will lead a dedicated team, drive service excellence, and create an environment where young people feel safe, supported, and empowered to achieve their goals.

About My Place

My Place is more than accommodation. It is a community where young people are supported to develop the confidence, resilience and practical life skills needed to move forward into independent living.

As the leader of the service, you play a central role in creating positive experiences and outcomes for young people facing homelessness and housing instability.

  • Lead and inspire a committed housing team delivering life‑changing support.
  • Shape a service that helps young people thrive, not just survive.
  • Drive service performance and continuous improvement.
  • Build strong partnerships across Norfolk's housing and support network.
  • Use your expertise to influence positive outcomes for some of the county's most vulnerable young people.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Oversee the day‑to‑day operation of My Place.
  • Lead, motivate and develop Housing Engagement Workers and Night Security staff.
  • Ensure residents receive high‑quality, person‑centred support.
  • Create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment where young people can flourish.
  • Manage tenancies, occupancy levels, arrears and move‑on pathways.
  • Champion safeguarding, health and safety, and risk management.
  • Support the delivery of meaningful activities that build life skills, confidence and independence.
  • Work closely with partner agencies to improve outcomes for young people and help tackle homelessness across Norfolk.

You will combine strong operational leadership with a passion for supporting young people.

You’ll Have:
  • Experience managing supported housing, housing services or tenancy‑based services.
  • Previous experience leading and developing teams.
  • A strong understanding of homelessness, housing support and safeguarding.
  • Experience assessing risk and supporting people with complex needs.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and relationship‑building skills.
  • The resilience and enthusiasm to thrive in a busy and rewarding environment.
Benefits
  • 34 days (pro rata) per annum inclusive of Bank and Public Holidays.
  • An additional day of annual leave (pro rata) awarded after 5 and 10 years of continuous Long Service.
  • Access to contributory stakeholder pension scheme after 3 months.
  • Health and wellbeing events and activities.
  • Family friendly policies.
  • In‑service training opportunities and bursaries investing in your development.
  • Annual staff day and staff awards to celebrate our successes.
  • Death in service benefit of 2 x annual salary.
  • Regular line management and support.

YMCA Norfolk is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check prior to starting employment. Written references will be obtained for the successful candidate covering the previous 5 years of employment.
