Waste Collection Operative

The Operations team is, amongst other things, responsible for delivering an efficient and effective multi‑stream waste collection service to residents and businesses across the district.

• Emptying waste receptacles and collecting waste in accordance with the methods and arrangements outlined by the Councils.
• Act and work to meet the prescribed standards and requirements of health and safety. This will include assisting vehicle drivers in the safe manoeuvring of vehicles where appropriate.
• When not allocated to a collection crew, carry out other duties within the operations service.
• Complete relevant paperwork such as attention cards and any other basic administration that the Councils require.
• Work as part of a team to ensure standards, targets and performance indicators for the services are met with a focus on customer needs and continuous service improvement.

You must: be physically fit and have the ability to walk extended distances, as well as undertake repetitive manual lifting. You will be able to follow procedures and accept direction and be able to work in a professional, competent and positive way with customers. You will also be able to work flexibly as part of a team to deliver the service.

The role will require some flexibility in terms of working early mornings/late afternoons and some weekends where required, particularly following a bank holiday or a period of inclement weather for example.

You will be operating in a safety critical role where your safety is paramount, the Council has a zero‑tolerance policy to taking illegal substances. This role will be subject to random Drugs and Alcohol testing.
