Biotech Research, Research Assistant/Associate, Lab Tech / Assistant, Research Scientist
Our Spring/Summer Co-op Program runs from January 18, 2027 through June 25, 2027. All applicants must be available for the full duration of the program. The Bioanalytical and Molecular Assay team is seeking a motivated co-op student to support laboratory-based bioanalytical LC-MS/MS activities for clinical programs. This role will provide hands‑on experience in sample preparation, LC-MS/MS analysis, data processing, method development support, and regulated laboratory documentation.
The co‑op will work closely with experienced scientists and research associates on assays involving lipids, biomarkers, proteins, peptides, and other biological analytes.
- Support LC-MS/MS method development, optimization, and sample analysis under the guidance of experienced scientists.
- Perform sample preparation from biological matrices using techniques such as protein precipitation, SPE, LLE, enzymatic digestion, and related workflows.
- Prepare calibration standards, quality controls, reagents, buffers, and study samples.
- Assist with LC-MS/MS instrument setup, sample loading, sequence preparation, and routine laboratory activities.
- Process and review analytical data using software such as SCIEX platforms and Thermo Scientific Xcalibur.
- Support sample tracking, run management, and study documentation using Watson LIMS, ELN, and other laboratory systems.
- Maintain accurate and complete experimental records in accordance with established procedures and SOPs.
- Assist with evaluation of assay performance, including calibration curves, QCs, accuracy, precision, and other relevant parameters.
- Support basic troubleshooting of sample preparation, chromatography, instrumentation, and data-processing issues under supervision.
- Assist with laboratory organization, reagent and consumable management, and routine instrument maintenance activities.
- Participate in team discussions and communicate experimental observations and results.
- Follow applicable laboratory safety, GLP/GCP principles, SOPs, and data-integrity practices.
- Currently pursuing a BS or MS degree in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, analytical chemistry, biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline.
- Interest in bioanalytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, and pharmaceutical or biotechnology research.
- Prior laboratory experience through coursework, academic research, internship, or co‑op experience.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to follow written procedures and work effectively in a collaborative laboratory environment.
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience with biological sample preparation.
- Familiarity with LC-MS/MS software such as SCIEX software or Thermo Scientific Xcalibur.
- Familiarity with Watson LIMS, ELN, or other laboratory data systems.
- Basic understanding of chromatography, mass spectrometry, or quantitative analytical techniques.
