Overview An excellent opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Audit & Accounts Semi Senior / Senior to join a long-established and highly respected independent accountancy practice in Birmingham. This is initially offered as a 12-month fixed-term contract , with a strong possibility of becoming a permanent position for the right individual. Working within a friendly and supportive team, you will gain exposure to a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses and charities, with approximately 60% of your time spent on audit assignments and 40% on accounts and tax work .
The firm's client base is diverse, with a particular focus on manufacturing businesses , alongside clients in the legal, retail and charitable sectors . This role would suit an ACA/ACCA part-qualified or recently ACA/ACCA qualified accountant looking to continue developing their career within a well-established accountancy practice.
The Role You will work closely with Managers and Partners, taking responsibility for a varied portfolio of clients and assisting in the delivery of high-quality audit, accounts and tax services. The role offers excellent exposure across all areas of general practice and provides the opportunity to build strong client relationships while developing your technical skills.
Key Responsibilities Audit (Approximately 60%) Assist with the planning and completion of statutory audits. Carry out audit fieldwork both on-site and remotely. Prepare audit working papers and supporting documentation. Liaise directly with clients throughout audit assignments. Identify issues and communicate findings to Managers and Partners Ensure assignments are completed within agreed deadlines. Accounts & Tax (Approximately 40%) Prepare statutory accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
Prepare corporation tax computations and returns. Assist with providing information to the personal tax team for personal tax returns where required. Prepare VAT returns and management accounts. Support clients with day-to-day accounting queries. Maintain accurate and complete working papers. Client Portfolio
You'll work with a broad range of clients including:
Manufacturing businesses Solicitors and other professional practices Retail and distribution businesses Charities and not-for-profit organisations Owner-managed businesses across a variety of sectors About You Essential Previous experience working within a UK accountancy practice. Experience in both audit and accounts preparation but a strong knowledge of auditing standards, processes and procedures. Good understanding of UK GAAP (FRS 102). Strong communication and organisational skills.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines. Professional approach with excellent attention to detail. Confident communicating with clients. Desirable ACA/ACCA part-qualified or qualified. Previous exposure to solicitors Accounts Rules and Charity audits/independent examinations. Experience preparing corporation tax returns. Experience using CCH software. Knowledge of cloud accounting software such as Xero or Quick Books and Sage. What's on Offer Salary up to £38,000 , depending on experience (but Partner level salary in future) 12-month fixed-term contract with a genuine opportunity to become permanent for the right person.
