The RoleThe Quantity Surveyor will play a key role in the commercial delivery of construction projects, taking responsibility for the financial and contractual performance from pre-contract through to final account. This is a hands-on role requiring strong commercial awareness, attention to detail, and the confidence to engage with clients, consultants, site teams, and the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities- Managing the commercial and contractual aspects of construction projects from inception to completion
- Liaising with clients, consultants, and design teams throughout pre-contract and post-contract stages
- Procuring subcontractors, including issuing enquiries, analysing returns, managing pre-order processes, and placing orders
- Preparing monthly cost value reconciliations and producing accurate financial reports as required
- Valuing works completed, monitoring budgets, and managing payments
- Maintaining comprehensive records to support final accounts and subcontractor accounts
- Carrying out site measurements for valuations, variations, and subcontractor assessments
- Setting financial targets and managing budgets for any direct works packages
- Controlling tender and contract documentation in accordance with internal systems and procedures
- Undertaking independent site visits as required by the role
- Providing mentoring and support to trainee and junior commercial staff
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the business to support project and company objectives
- Professionally presented and confident communicating with clients, consultants, and the supply chain
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying role within a comparable construction environment
- Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a relevant commercial discipline
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider team
- Highly organised with strong time management and prioritisation skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to meet deadlines and perform under pressure
- Strong IT capability, particularly across Microsoft Office applications
- High attention to detail with a commitment to quality
- Full UK driving licence and access to transport
