Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Surgeon within Trauma & Orthopaedics, specialising in Upper limb.

This is a substantive, full time, combined trauma and elective position. The successful candidate will provide general orthopaedic trauma and the full scope of trauma and elective shoulder and elbow services at the major trauma centre and the elective orthopaedic tertiary unit. The elective component includes specialist shoulder and elbow surgery, including revision shoulder and elbow arthroplasty. The role also involves acute shoulder and elbow services and an acute subspecialist clinic.

The work will be based on the Queens Medical Centre Campus / Treatment Centre and the Nottingham City Campus.

Key duties include:

• Provide orthopaedic trauma care and oversee trauma requiring services.
• Lead shoulder and elbow elective surgery, including revisions.
• Operate complex shoulder and elbow arthroplasty procedures.
• Run acute shoulder and clavicle clinics.
• Attend on-call commitments in the orthopaedic trauma unit (1 in 16).
• Contribute to teaching, audit and research.

• Full GMC registration and entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT or CESR at commencement.
• MCRS (or equivalent).
• FRCS (Tr & Ortho) or equivalent.
• National BOA future leaders programme award.
• ATLS instructor.
• Previous registrar level experience in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery.
• Shoulder and Elbow fellowship in tertiary referral revision centre and GIRFT approved network hub.
• Senior training (ST7 or above) in major trauma centre orthopaedic pathway.
• Demonstrated behaviours aligned with the Trust's “We are here for you” standards.
• Strong management skills: service development, delegation, teamwork.
• Commitment to a future consultant career at a major trauma centre with a specialist tertiary interest in shoulder and elbow surgery.
• Evidence of participation in Clinical Audit, teaching junior staff and supervising medical students.

• Travelling fellowship award from BOA or BESS.
• Specific training in communication skills.
• Higher management degree or qualification of training.
• Experience of change management.
• Original research, publications and leading junior trainee rotas.
• Evidence of leading development of clinic research and audit infrastructure.
