In addition to maintaining these high standards, there is a commitment towards research and the unit has an international reputation in this respect.

The unit provides specialist tertiary referral HPB services to a population of 2.5 million patients in Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, East Staffordshire and Derbyshire, as well as a local service for biliary surgery. The major surgical caseload included approximately 150 liver resections and 90 pancreatic resections and a continued increase in major cancer and benign resectional workload is anticipated. The unit has three MDT / image review meetings per week and a departmental planning meeting weekly.
