Applications are invited for whole‑time Locum consultant in Paediatric Gastroenterology.
You will join 3 consultants and a team of Paediatric Gastroenterology specialist nurses, Paediatric Surgery specialist nurses, a specialist gastroenterology dietitian, a PN, gastroenterology pharmacist and full support staff.
We provide services for children and families in Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland and further afield. We are a GRID training centre and offer a full range of tertiary gastroenterology services, including management of IBD and intestinal failure (including Home PN), and a full range of gastroenterological conditions. Day‑case investigations and treatments are conducted on our daycare ward.
Main duties of the jobOur working week includes management of inpatients, outpatient clinics (individual, telephone and multidisciplinary), regular endoscopy lists, service weeks and weekly nutrition rounds on the neonatal unit and paediatric wards. A special interest in leading regional intestinal failure service is desirable. Applicants must already be on the GMC specialist register with a certificate of completion of specialist training in Paediatric Gastroenterology (or equivalent eg CSER) or be within 6 months of completion.

Job responsibilities- Participate in care of paediatric gastroenterology inpatients and provide advice to other specialties.
- Provide telephone advice to peripheral hospitals (service week model).
- Deliver one multidisciplinary and one to two individual outpatient clinics per week at LRI.
- Participate in telephone clinics.
- On‑call commitment for paediatric gastroenterology (currently telephone only).
- Involve as needed in teaching and training (undergraduate and postgraduate).
- Strong interest in leading intestinal failure and home PN service if appropriately trained and experienced.
- Provide the highest standard of care and professionalism in inpatient, acute and outpatient settings.
- Work collaboratively with the paediatric gastroenterology team and other services.
- Participate in MDT meetings and supervise trainees.
- Communicate effectively with patients, their parents or carers and the multi‑disciplinary team.
- Work to national and local clinical guidelines and policies.
- Help develop and review protocols of care.
- Mentor to ensure consistently high standards of service.
- Work with the Clinical Management Group to reduce risk, incidents and complaints.
- Participate in clinical audit and QIPP initiatives.
- Ensure safeguarding of patients.
- Clinical supervision of trainee doctors.
- Clinical teaching of medical students.
- Undertaking trainees' work‑based assessment and providing clinical supervisor reports.
- Participation in undergraduate examinations.
- Outreach education to primary care and other stakeholders.

- Participate in local, national and international research studies.
- Undertake managerial duties associated with patient care and running the clinical department.
- Understand the wider health agenda and modern NHS.
- Engage with the Children's Hospital Strategy and the trust's strategic direction.
- Account for non‑fixed session time, which may be filled with teaching, audit, research or admin duties.
- Work with the Management Team and Lead Clinicians to ensure service delivery within budget.
