Role Description This part-time hybrid working role is for CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) Consultants who will provide clinical assessments, diagnostic formulation, and ongoing management plans for children and young people with mental health needs. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting virtual consultations, reviewing clinical histories and reports, liaising with families, schools, and other professionals, and documenting care plans and clinical notes in a timely manner.

The role involves participating in multidisciplinary meetings, offering guidance on risk management, and contributing to treatment strategies such as medication plans, psychoeducation, and referrals to appropriate services. CAMHS Consultants are expected to maintain up-to-date knowledge of guidelines and best practices, engage in supervision or peer review as required, and support service development and quality improvement initiatives. Flexibility in scheduling and a high degree of professional autonomy are key aspects of this position.

Qualifications

• Specialist training (CCT )and experience in child and adolescent psychiatry or CAMHS, with the ability to assess, diagnose, and manage a broad range of mental health conditions in young people.
• Strong clinical risk assessment and management skills, including experience working with complex presentations, safeguarding concerns, and crisis intervention.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with families, carers, schools, and multidisciplinary teams in a remote setting.
• Competence in using telepsychiatry or other remote consultation platforms, along with solid documentation, time-management, and organizational skills.
• Commitment to evidence-based practice, continuing professional development, and adherence to relevant professional and ethical standards and regulatory requirements.
• Relevant professional registration or licensure (e.g., board certification, membership of a recognized psychiatric body) and eligibility to practice in the jurisdiction of service delivery.
• Experience working within structured mental health services, such as community CAMHS, hospital-based units, or private practice, is highly beneficial.
• Ability to work independently, maintain boundaries, and practice in a culturally sensitive and non-discriminatory manner with diverse populations.

Hybrid working

Mostly remote but face to face appointments will be available for consultants willing to travel.
