Job overviewA full-time fixed-term opportunity, with the potential to progress to a substantive post is available for a Consultant Haematologist with expertise in Haemostasis, Thrombosis, and TTP at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. This 12-month post offers the opportunity to join the non-malignant haematology team, working alongside 6 Consultants and 1 Haematology Specialist Doctor to deliver a comprehensive non-malignant haematology service. A concurrent recruitment process is also underway for a 7th Consultant appointment, reflecting the continued expansion of the team
Main duties of the jobCandidates should have a specialist interest in Haemostasis and Thrombosis and TTP and will be expected to provide a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient service within non-malignant and general haematology. Significant experience in these areas is essential. The post holder will be expected to progress to undertake the clinical lead role for the DVT and anticoagulation service and chair of the Trust Thrombosis Committee.
The successful candidate will also contribute to the haemostasis and thrombosis laboratory diagnostic services.
Queens Medical Centre Campus hosts the specialist Nottingham Haemostasis and Thrombosis services which includes the Comprehensive Care Centre for Haemophilia. There is a busy liaison service for haemostasis and thrombosis across both trusts and the H&T clinical teams supervise the nurse led anticoagulation and DVT follow up services. The team is supported by the Nottingham Haemostasis and Thrombosis Reference Laboratory which is based on site.
Detailedjob description and main responsibilities
This is a full time post. However NUH are committed to supporting flexible working where possible and there will be an opportunity at interview to discuss individual preference. This service provided by the Clinical Haematology Specialty is provided across both campuses, with the primary base will be Queens Medical Centre.
The proposed Job Plan is detailed in this job description. It accounts for 10 programmed activities (PAs) comprising:
7.875 PAs of direct clinical care (DCC), including ward rounds, clinics, patient administration, clinical diagnostic work, MDTs, and GP advice and guidance.
2.125 PAs of supporting professional activities (SPAs) include appraisal, audit, teaching, educational supervision and network meetings

Professional registration/qualifications- Full and specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
- Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
- FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
- MRCP or evidence of equivalent qualification
- Higher professional degree
- An interest and experience in Thrombosis and Haemostasis
- Able to offer general advice on red cells and general haematology
- Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families and other health professionals
- Specific training in communication skills
- Specific training in patient safety and/or human factors
- Able to develop, present and ope rationalise coherent ideas for service development/delivery
- Ability to work co-operatively with others and demonstrate leadership when appropriate
- The ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams
- Higher management degree or qualification or training
- Experience of change management
- Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families and other health professionals
- Able to work flexibly in a changing health service
- Able to use the Trust's IT support systems
