University of Nottingham – School of Chemistry
The School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham is recruiting ambitious, curious, and highly motivated graduates to join its world‑class research environment as PhD researchers. Our doctoral programmes offer the opportunity to work at the forefront of chemical research while contributing to solutions for some of society’s most pressing global challenges.
PhD projects are available across the School’s three strategic research priority areas:
Chemistry for Energy, Environment and Sustainability;
Chemistry for Health and Society; and Chemistry for the Quantum and Digital Future. Researchers benefit from internationally recognised expertise, state‑of‑the‑art facilities, strong interdisciplinary collaboration, and comprehensive training that prepares graduates for careers in academia, industry, and beyond.
These PhD roles will begin in the 2026/2027 academic year. When applying, candidates should indicate the broad area of chemistry they wish to work in and whether they have identified a potential supervisor.
Applicants should hold a first‑class Master’s degree (or equivalent) in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, physics, or a closely related discipline. Candidates with a strong 2:1 degree may also be considered, as well as applicants with equivalent overseas qualifications.
Applications should be submitted via the University of Nottingham admissions portal:
