About the role
This Clinical Teaching Fellow Post is ideal for a doctor with MRCP seeking to establish a career in any medical specialty, either between core medical and higher training who wants a career break, or a higher specialist trainee on an Out of Programme for Experience with an interest in medical education. The post is also of interest for trainees pursuing a career in Respiratory Medicine, Critical Care or Acute Medicine, as it offers experience in respiratory conditions and use of Non‑Invasive Ventilation (NIV).
The role involves working alongside other Clinical Teaching Fellows and the Undergraduate Education Manager to deliver teaching to medical students at NUH and develop new educational initiatives.
- Deliver ward‑based general medicine teaching on the FFP Junior Medicine Course (Year 3), AP1 Integrated Medicine (Year 4) and AP2 (Senior Medicine course Year 5) across the City and QMC Campus.
- Provide cover where appropriate for other Clinical Teaching Fellows and receive cover in return.
- Contribute to revision and remediation courses.
- Participate in clinical assessment through DOPS and Min‑Cex of students during the clinical course.
- Contribute to Patient and Simulated Patient Workshops on the clinical course.
- Contribute to the induction of FFP, AP1 and AP2 students.
- Provide teaching on the Early Clinical Experience Course.
- Contribute to the formal examination of students, including OSCE examinations and exam question writing.
- Take part in one‑to‑one tutoring of students resitting their exams and provide individual teaching support as required.
- Support the strategic evolution of teaching for all the above groups.
- Develop innovative teaching methods across the clinical course in collaboration with the Undergraduate Manager and other Clinical Teaching Fellows.
- Pursue appropriate projects to support personal learning and improve departmental experience.
Applicants must be doctors with MRCP (or equivalent) and meet the following criteria:
- Between core medical and higher training, or in a higher specialist training programme of an Out of Programme for Experience.
- Interest in medical education.
- Experience or interest in Respiratory Medicine, Critical Care or Acute Medicine preferred.
Salary will be quoted on a pro‑rata basis for part‑time workers. NHS employees in the East Midlands who are at risk of redundancy will receive a preferential interview. Applicants aged 16‑17 applying for roles exceeding 20 hours per week will be required to commence an apprenticeship. NUH offers application completion and interview‑preparation support.
