As Clinical Section Editor Lead for Respiratory Medicine
, you will have editorial leadership responsibility for our SCE Respiratory content, ensuring it is:
- Exam‑relevant
- Clinically authentic
- Educationally robust
- Aligned with current UK guidelines and the SCE blueprint
You will work closely with BMJ’s editorial, education, and digital teams to maintain and develop best‑in‑class revision resources.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the Respiratory Medicine section of BMJ OnExamination for the SCE.
- Author, review, and refine high‑quality single best answer (SBA) and case‑based questions aligned to the SCE Respiratory blueprint.
- Ensure all content is accurate, up to date
, and reflects current UK and international respiratory guidelines. - Embed clinical reasoning, exam technique, and best practice into question design and explanations.
- Oversee quality assurance, peer review, and standard‑setting processes.
- Mentor and support contributing question writers where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with BMJ editorial and education teams to maintain consistency and excellence.
- Engage with emerging approaches in technology‑enhanced assessment
, including the responsible use of AI‑assisted item development and feedback tools

- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
- Completion of postgraduate training in Respiratory Medicine, with successful completion
of the SCE (or equivalent recent, in‑depth knowledge of the exam). - Strong understanding of the SCE structure
, blueprint, and assessment standards. - Broad and current clinical knowledge across Respiratory Medicine.
- Excellent written English with meticulous attention to clinical and editorial detail.
- Experience of exam question writing, reviewing, or teaching at postgraduate level.
- Comfortable working independently in a remote setting
, meeting editorial deadlines. - Interest in innovation in medical education, including the use of digital platforms and AI.
- Formal qualification or training in medical education.
- Previous experience as an examiner, question writer, or course faculty for postgraduate respiratory or MRCP‑level teaching.
- Familiarity with online learning platforms or item management systems.
