A well-established 11–18 secondary school in Nottingham is seeking an experienced and driven Head of Mathematics to lead one of its largest and most influential departments. Mathematics is a cornerstone subject within the school, with consistently strong GCSE outcomes and growing A‑Level uptake. The department is well staffed, stable and supported by senior leadership who understand the central role of Maths in whole‑school success.
The RoleAs Head of Mathematics, you will provide strategic direction, operational leadership and academic oversight for the department across Key Stages 3–5.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading curriculum design to ensure clarity, progression and challenge
- Coaching and developing teaching staff through regular instructional support
- Driving GCSE and A‑Level performance through data‑informed interventions
- Ensuring consistency in assessment, marking and feedback practices
- Overseeing revision planning, exam readiness and stretch provision
- Contributing to whole‑school improvement priorities
The department works within a structured and well‑sequenced curriculum model. Schemes of learning are centrally planned but continuously refined by the team, balancing consistency with professional autonomy.
There is a strong focus on mastery, fluency and problem‑solving, with deliberate practice embedded across all year groups.
