Job Introduction

Being part of Nottingham College means playing a vital part in helping thousands of people reach their potential. Together, we’re making a positive difference to our learners, to our communities and to each other. We’re building better futures, for others and for ourselves. Here, you’ll have the freedom to work in a way that suits you, the support to thrive and the opportunity to shape your career.

What

you’ll do

We recognise that great Transition Tutors come from a wide range of backgrounds. You may already have experience in education or learner support, or bring transferable skills and a strong commitment to supporting young people. We welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Experience of working with vulnerable young people in an education, training, or support setting
  • A strong understanding of inclusive practice, learner needs, and progression pathways within education
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted, supportive relationships with learners and staff
  • The ability to provide consistent, calm and supportive guidance to learners during periods of change
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accurate records
  • A proactive, flexible approach, with the ability to work effectively across different curriculum areas and sites
  • Experience of monitoring learner progress and identifying barriers to engagement or achievement
  • A commitment to person-centered, trauma-informed approaches that support positive learner outcomes

Above all, you will bring a genuine passion for supporting young people, helping them overcome barriers, build confidence, and achieve their potential as they progress through their educational journey.

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for a compassionate, proactive, and student-focused Transition Tutor to support learner progression across our college. This is a highly rewarding role where you will work closely with vulnerable learners, helping them to successfully transition into new curriculum areas and take their next steps in education. You will play a key role in ensuring that each learner’s journey is smooth, supportive, and tailored to their individual needs, aspirations, and support requirements.

You will support students to explore and access internal progression opportunities, delivering structured campus and curriculum tours to build confidence and familiarity with new environments. During this critical transition period, you will act as a consistent and trusted point of contact, helping learners settle into new expectations around attendance, engagement, and learning.

Working collaboratively with teaching, pastoral, and support teams, you will ensure that learner needs, reasonable adjustments, and support strategies are effectively shared and embedded, promoting a joined-up and inclusive approach. You will provide targeted support for learners from inclusive pathways, including Foundation Learning and King’s Trust programmes, as well as LALs and High Needs students, ensuring transitions are person-centered, trauma-informed, and empowering.

We are looking for someone who is adaptable, empathetic, and committed to making a positive difference, with the ability to build strong relationships and support students to engage, progress, and succeed.
