Role
Title:
Lecturer - Essential Skills
Location: Deeside
Contract Type: Full time, Fixed term - 1/09/2026 to 18/12/2026. This role covers 37 hours per week and a job share would be considered for the right candidates.
Salary: £33,596 - £51,932 (Pro‑rata). Upper pay range points UP2 and UP3 are subject to evidence of previous progression to Upper Pay Spine.
We currently have a vacancy for an Essential Skills lecturer to deliver across our range of English, Maths and Digital Skills provision from our Deeside campus.
What you will do- Perform scheduled teaching, preparation of learning materials, marking of students’ work, liaison with awarding bodies and exam invigilation.
- Provide educational guidance, support and counselling for all students and act as a personal tutor when required.
- Liaise with tutors from other business areas with regard to resources, curriculum development, student reports and other related matters.
- Complete and produce the agreed deadlines documentation such as registers, schemes of work, records of work, course review, course analysis documentation, student reports, absence reports, course files, etc.
- Experience delivering the Essential Skills Wales (ESW) suite of qualifications, which includes Essential Communication Skills, Essential Application of Number Skills and Essential Digital Literacy Skills. Applications are also welcome from lecturers who are experienced in delivering Functional Skills.
- A minimum of a Level 5 teaching qualification (e.g. Cert Ed/PGCE) or be working towards a Level 5 teaching qualification.
- Educated to a minimum Level 4 qualification.
- Knowledge of the broad range of learning needs and how to support these needs within a learning environment.
- Awareness of the importance of quality standards within teaching.
- The ability to recognise and make students aware of their strengths and development needs.
- Proven experience and competence in dealing with learners who exhibit challenging behaviours.
- A demonstrated commitment to and awareness of the importance of Safeguarding.
Welsh skills are desirable for this specific post. We are seeking candidates who can help us grow our bilingual provision and service.
