Teaching Assistant – PMLD
Location: Nottinghamshire
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time / Part-time / Flexible
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) in a specialist educational setting.
This highly rewarding role involves working closely with pupils who have complex needs, including physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and medical requirements
, supporting them to access education in a meaningful and engaging way.
You will play a vital role in helping students develop communication, independence, and life skills within a nurturing and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with PMLD
- Assist with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, and mobility
- Support sensory-based learning activities and therapeutic programmes
- Use communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, or visual aids
- Work alongside teachers and therapists to deliver personalised learning plans
- Support students with physical needs, including use of specialist equipment
- Encourage engagement, interaction, and emotional wellbeing
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
- Follow safeguarding and medical protocols at all times
- Experience working with children or young people with complex needs
- A caring, patient, and resilient nature
- Willingness to support with personal care
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to remain calm and adaptable in a dynamic environment
- Genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional and complex needs
- Experience in a PMLD or specialist SEN setting
- Knowledge of sensory integration or therapeutic approaches
- Experience with hoisting/manual handling (training can be provided)
- Familiarity with communication tools such as Makaton or PECS
- Team Teach or similar behaviour support training
- GCA Approved Supplier
