OverviewSenior Electrical and Controls Design Engineer – Industrial Automation
Location: South Oxfordshire
Salary: £55,000 per annum
A leading advanced engineering company working at the forefront of automation and inspection systems is seeking a Senior Electrical and Controls Design Engineer to join its growing team. The company delivers high-precision automated solutions to global manufacturers and operates across a wide range of sectors including automotive, medical, electronics and high-tech production.
This is an opportunity to work on a wide range of factory automation projects, from small retrofits to full turnkey systems. You will be responsible for electrical design, PLC and HMI programming, and commissioning of bespoke automation systems across the UK and internationally.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop industrial control systems using AutoCAD Electrical or similar software
- Full lifecycle programming of PLCs and HMIs, including Allen Bradley and/or Siemens platforms
- Specify and select safety systems, control gear, and industrial electrical components
- Develop technical documentation, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts to EU standards
- Support system integration and commissioning on customer sites in the UK and overseas
- Work with internal design and applications teams to deliver automation projects to specification and deadline
- Conduct electrical testing, support panel wiring, and contribute to machine build and fault-finding during manufacture
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in PLC and HMI programming within industrial automation
- Strong understanding of electrical design and control systems
- Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent
- Familiar with industrial communication protocols such as Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, IO-Link and TCP/IP
- Experience with electrical panel layout and wiring to EU standards
- Machinery safety awareness or training
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Team-oriented with excellent communication skills
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Knowledge of robotics or machine vision systems
- Full UK driving licence
