Job Description & How to Apply Below
We are looking for a meticulous and skilled Estimator to support large‑scale solar EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) initiatives. This role is responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and comprehensive cost estimates for utility‑scale solar PV projects. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of solar construction practices, proficiency with industry‑standard estimating tools, and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, procurement, and project management teams.
Key Responsibilities- Develop detailed cost estimates for utility‑scale solar EPC projects, including labor, equipment, materials, and subcontracted work.
- Review project documentation—RFPs, specifications, drawings, and contracts—to fully understand scope and technical requirements.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and cost models across all project disciplines, including civil, structural, electrical, and balance‑of‑system components.
- Solicit, review, and compare supplier and subcontractor bids to ensure cost accuracy and competitiveness.
- Work with internal engineering, procurement, and construction teams to validate design assumptions, assess constructability, and identify value‑engineering opportunities.
- Document key assumptions, risks, and exclusions in estimates and communicate these clearly to internal stakeholders.
- Assist in assembling proposals, budgets, and client‑facing presentation materials.
- Maintain historical cost data, unit‑cost databases, and benchmarking tools to improve future estimating accuracy.
- Support the transition of awarded projects to execution teams, ensuring clear communication of scope and cost assumptions.
- Stay current on industry pricing trends, market conditions, and emerging technologies in solar PV and energy storage.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 3‑7 years of estimating experience, including at least two years focused on utility‑scale solar or renewable EPC projects.
- Strong understanding of solar PV systems, civil/site work, electrical design, and EPC contract structures.
- Proficiency with estimating platforms (e.g., Heavy Bid, Pro Est, RSMeans) and Excel.
- Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem‑solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with internal teams, vendors, and clients.
- Experience with hybrid systems and/or battery energy storage (BESS).
- Familiarity with NEC guidelines, interconnection requirements, and permitting processes.
- Working knowledge of project management tools such as Procore or Primavera P6.
- Demonstrated success identifying cost‑saving opportunities and optimizing project designs.
