Position: Principal Structural Engineer |
We’re working in partnership with a well-established, design-led civil and structural engineering consultancy in Nottingham to recruit a highly capable Principal Structural Engineer.

This is a senior opportunity offering both technical leadership and strategic input, ideal for an experienced engineer looking to play a key role in project delivery, team development, and the continued growth of a respected regional business.

Role

As a Principal Structural Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of a broad range of structural engineering projects, while supporting senior leadership in managing clients, developing teams, and driving business performance.

You’ll act as both a technical authority and a mentor, ensuring high standards across all aspects of delivery.

Responsibilities

Lead structural design on a range of projects across residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use sectors

Oversee project delivery from concept through to completion

Review and approve calculations, drawings, and technical reports

Act as a key point of contact for clients, architects, and contractors

Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical guidance to engineers and technicians

Support business development, including client engagement and winning new work

Ensure projects are delivered to programme, budget, and quality expectations

Contribute to strategic decisions within the team and wider business

About you

Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering

Chartered Engineer (CEng) with IStruct

E or ICE

Extensive experience in structural design using a range of materials (steel, concrete, timber, masonry)

Proven track record in leading projects and managing design teams

Strong technical knowledge of UK codes and standards

Experience in client-facing roles and stakeholder management

Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to business development

Strong leadership and communication skills
