Business and Division Description At ABB, the Energy & Carbon Service (ECS) Business Line within the Electrification Service Division helps commercial and industrial customers navigate the energy transition. Through advisory, electrification, and decarbonization solutions delivered via as-a-Service models, we enable emissions reduction, energy optimization, and resilient operations.

As Senior Project Developer for as-a-Service Projects (EU), you will lead the full lifecycle of energy transition projects—from opportunity identification and FEED to permitting, interconnection, and notice-to-proceed. You’ll develop commercially and technically viable solutions integrating technologies like energy storage and microgrids.

You’ll coordinate cross-functional teams, manage stakeholders, and ensure projects are structured for long-term success. Post-development, you’ll support execution through to commercial operation and handover.

Location This role is based in Europe, with a preferred location in the UK and Spain. The work model is hybrid. #LI-hybrid

Key Responsibilities Lead full lifecycle development of as-a-Service energy projects, from site identification through notice-to-proceed (NTP) and commercial operation.

Secure and assess project sites, ensuring alignment with technical, commercial, and regulatory requirements; manage permitting and local approvals.

Oversee interconnection processes with utilities and authorities; coordinate engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracting.

Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and risk matrices; implement mitigation strategies to ensure delivery against milestones.

Act as primary customer contact during development, ensuring clear communication, alignment, and satisfaction.

Manage suppliers and service providers to meet project requirements and ABB’s standards for integrity, HSE, and commercial terms.

Support execution phase through to handover, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, cost, and schedule objectives.

Maintain project documentation, financial tracking, and reporting for internal stakeholders and customers.

Qualifications Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university, with a strong foundation in energy systems, infrastructure, or related technical disciplines.

Project Development

Experience:

Minimum of 8 years in energy project development and/or project management, with hands-on experience in technologies such as energy storage, microgrids, and electrification infrastructure. Proven ability to manage projects from concept through commissioning.

Full Lifecycle Expertise:
Demonstrated success across all phases of project development — including site identification, feasibility assessment, permitting, securing local approvals, interconnection processes, execution, and final handover. Familiarity with European permitting and interconnection frameworks is highly valued.

Project Management & Execution:
Strong project management capabilities, including risk identification and mitigation, stakeholder engagement, timeline and budget control, and coordination of internal and external resources.

Experience with front-end engineering design (FEED) and transition to commercial operation is a plus.

Business & Financial Acumen:
Solid understanding of commercial and financial aspects of project delivery, including the New Contracting Process (NCP), ECP relationship management, and cost-benefit analysis. Ability to align technical execution with business…
