Position: Manufacturing Engineer (Metrology)
Up to 50000 per annum

Nottinghamshire, England Permanent Manufacturing  Engineer - Metrology & Precision Engineering Defence & Maritime Engineering We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer with expertise in metrology and precision engineering to support the manufacture and assembly of complex components and systems within the defence and maritime sector.

As part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will provide technical support to manufacturing operations, ensuring products meet stringent quality, dimensional, and performance requirements.

This role offers the opportunity to work with advanced metrology technologies and contribute to the continuous improvement of manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities Provide technical support and engineering guidance to manufacturing and assembly teams.

Act as a key link between production and engineering functions, facilitating effective technical communication.

Advise on component tolerances, machining capability, and engineering drawing requirements.

Support PFMEA activities, process development, risk assessment, and manufacturing procedures.

Interpret engineering drawings and provide technical mentoring to production personnel.

Coordinate and support metrology activities across manufacturing operations.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, process capability, and efficiency.

Assist with tooling and production method enhancements to improve manufacturing performance.

Work closely with quality, design engineering, supply chain, customers, and auditors.

Utilise advanced metrology equipment, including laser trackers and portable measuring arms.

Analyse measurement data and provide feedback to support design and tolerance requirements.

Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and customer installation activities through detailed measurement analysis and reporting.

Skills & Experience Strong background in manufacturing engineering principles.

Knowledge of machining processes such as milling, turning, and boring.

Experience supporting manufacturing and assembly operations.

Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

Good understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).

Experience with CNC programming.

Familiarity with SAP and manufacturing engineering systems.

Practical experience using laser trackers, measuring arms, and other precision metrology equipment.

Experience validating components and assemblies against engineering tolerances.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

EssentialNVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
