Our client, a prominent organisation in the highways sector, is currently looking for a Highway Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. This role is focused on maintaining and improving highway infrastructure and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and health and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Investigate, design, cost and deliver highway structural maintenance and improvement schemes
  • Manage carriageway and footway resurfacing, reconstruction, structural patching, and drainage improvement projects
  • Develop specifications and oversee works in accordance with engineering standards and quality management procedures
  • Monitor project budgets, programmes, and contractor performance
  • Undertake site inspections and supervise works to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements
  • Assess temporary traffic management arrangements and construction risks
  • Provide technical advice and support to colleagues and stakeholders
  • Assist with the development of future maintenance programmes to improve the condition of the highway network
  • Prepare reports, performance information and responses to enquiries from residents, councillors, and other stakeholders
Job Requirements:
  • Experience in highway engineering or a related field
  • Strong understanding of highway structural maintenance and improvement schemes
  • Proficiency in developing specifications and adhering to engineering standards
  • Ability to monitor project budgets, programmes, and contractor performance
  • Experience in conducting site inspections and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards
  • Ability to assess temporary traffic management arrangements and construction risks
  • Strong communication skills to provide technical advice and support
  • Capable of preparing detailed reports and responding to stakeholders
