Job Description & How to Apply Below
You will be joining a well‑established building services subcontractor based in Nottinghamshire, delivering high‑quality engineering solutions across projects such as schools, warehouses, commercial offices, and public‑sector buildings.
The company is in a strong period of growth, supported by long‑standing clients and increasing demand. With ambitions to expand towards becoming a £10 million organisation, they are investing in their in‑house design capability. This opportunity has arisen due to both expansion and an upcoming retirement, making it a genuinely rare senior‑level opening.
Your new role
As the Mechanical Design Lead, you will take responsibility for delivering and overseeing mechanical building services design across a varied project portfolio.
Your role will include:
Leading mechanical design work, from concept through to delivery
Producing and reviewing calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports
Coordinating with internal teams, architects, and contractors
Supporting tenders, proposals, and technical submissions
Mentoring and developing junior/intermediate engineers
Helping to shape and grow an expanding design team
You will be based in the office full‑time, working within a close‑knit and supportive technical team.
What you'll need to succeed
You will have a strong background in mechanical building services design and the confidence to take technical ownership. You will ideally have:
Experience delivering mechanical design across education, commercial, industrial, or public‑sector buildings
Proficiency in IES (thermal modelling) and Revit (3D coordination)
Strong communication and coordination skills
Ability to manage design workload and contribute to project meetings
Relevant engineering qualifications (Degree/HNC/HND)
A desire to step into leadership if currently at Intermediate/Senior level
This role suits either an experienced Mechanical Design Lead or a high‑performing engineer ready to step up.
What you'll get in return
£55,000 - £85,000 salary (depending on experience)
Car allowance
25 days annual leave
Access to an Employee Trust Scheme
Clear progression pathway as the business grows toward £10m turnover
A rare opportunity created by growth and succession planning
Real influence in shaping a growing design team
