Finance Trustee – The Dream Factory (voluntary role)

Make a practical difference: The Dream Factory helps make dreams come true for children and young people living with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions.

Why we’re looking

We’re strengthening our board with a hands-on Finance Trustee who’ll help us keep our finances tight, transparent and pointed at what matters most delivering more dreams, safely and sustainably. You’ll be a sounding board for the Chair and fellow trustees and work closely with our small staff/volunteer team.

• Provide strategic oversight of budgeting, cashflow and reserves; make sure controls are practical and proportionate.
• Support treasury decisions (e.g., savings accounts and interest-bearing options) and ensure funds are safeguarded.
• Lead on annual accounts and audit liaison; help us file on time with the Charity Commission and keep policies current.
• Sense check monthly finance updates and help translate numbers into clear actions the whole board can get behind.
• Champion good governance and risk management, keeping trustees focused on value for beneficiaries.

You’re a qualified accountant (CCAB/CIMA/ACA/ACCA) or bring equivalent senior finance experience. You’re comfortable in charities or SMEs, pragmatic about controls, and happy to roll your sleeves up—whether that’s checking reconciliations or helping trustees weigh up investment and banking choices.

Trustee business is flexible and often online; recent sessions have been held early evening via Teams.

Expect c. 1–2 days a month (more around yearend), plus occasional events.
