Audit Assistant AAT

Overview

We're on the lookout for enthusiastic self-starters who are always up for a challenge and want to learn. Audit is a technically demanding discipline, so we look for students who are quick to grasp new subjects and are ready to challenge themselves to become a Chartered Accountant.

You may have confidence with numbers, be an excellent team player, or be inquisitive of complicated issues. If you don't, we will look to develop these skills in you. You'll often need to explain complex financial information, so you'll need excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• External audit work: carry out a detailed, risk-based review of a company s financial records, processes and controls to form an opinion on whether the financial statements prepared by the directors are true and fair.
• Contribute to high-quality audits by challenging operations and improving internal controls; understand that financial statements are often public documents and provide confidence to stakeholders.
• Join a fast-growing firm with a broad client base, including large listed companies, national retail chains, charities, and international clients.
• Be part of a team from day one, taking ownership of tasks within larger teams and preparing to lead those teams in the future.
• Progress from talking to client staff in your first month to delegating to other auditors within a year and leading audit teams on-site within four years.
• Balance professional exams and training with day-to-day audit work toward becoming a Chartered Accountant through a structured apprenticeship.

• UCAS points: 112 across 3 A Levels or an equivalent level 3 qualification, or 104 UCAS points across 4 Scottish Highers/Advanced Highers or Irish Leaving Certificate (Higher Level).
• Willingness to pursue a 5-year apprenticeship qualification pathway: AAT (first two years) followed by ACA (remaining three years) with ICAEW; or in Scotland: AAT then CA with ICAS; or in Ireland: AAT then CA with CAI.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain complex financial information clearly.
• Interest in accounting, auditing and professional development; a passion for learning and teamwork.

At RSM, you'll be a key member of our team from day one, getting involved in client work quickly and working as part of larger teams. You will develop ownership of tasks and progress toward leadership roles within the audit team.

Within your first month you will be talking to clients’ finance staff; within a year you will be delegating to other auditors; within four years you could be leading audit teams on-site. You will be exposed to a depth of services and clients, including large listed companies, national retail chains, high-profile charities, and international clients.
