Financial Assistant

Alexander Daniels are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing organisation for a Finance Assistant to join their finance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional looking to take the next step in their career. Working closely with an experienced Finance Manager, you’ll gain exposure to a broad range of accounting and finance responsibilities, making this an ideal role for someone who wants to move beyond transactional finance and develop into a more rounded accounting position.

We are specifically looking for someone with strong hands‑on transactional finance experience, particularly across purchase ledger, sales ledger, and bank reconciliations
, who is keen to build on these foundations and progress their career over the next 1-2 years.

The business is ideally seeking a candidate with around 2-3 years of finance experience who demonstrates the ambition, capability, and drive to take on more advanced accounting responsibilities within 6-9 months
. This role offers genuine development opportunities and would suit someone studying towards, or considering, a professional accounting qualification.

• Manage purchase invoice processing and ensure supplier payments are made accurately and on time.
• Raise sales invoices, monitor receivables, and support credit control activities.
• Complete bank reconciliations and intercompany reconciliations.
• Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns.
• Carry out balance sheet reconciliations, including fixed assets, accruals, and prepayments.
• Support the production of monthly KPI reporting and cash flow forecasts.
• Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts.
• Support the preparation of statutory accounts in accordance with IFRS/FRS 102.
• Provide assistance during external audits and liaise with key stakeholders when required.
• Contribute to finance process improvements and wider project work across the department.

To be successful in this role, you will have proven experience within a finance position, with strong exposure to:

• Purchase Ledger
• Sales Ledger
• Bank Reconciliations

• Around 2-3 years of relevant finance experience.
• A genuine desire to progress your career and develop into a broader accounting role.
• Strong Excel skills and a solid understanding of double‑entry bookkeeping.
• Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
• A proactive and self‑motivated approach, with the confidence to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ideally be studying towards, or interested in pursuing, a professional qualification such as AAT, ACCA, or CIMA.
