Are you a hands-on Finance Manager or Management Accountant looking for a role where you can take real ownership and grow with a business?

We’re recruiting for a growing SME in Nottingham that is looking for someone to take responsibility for its day-to-day finance function and, importantly, help develop it for the next stage of growth.

This could be a great next move for someone currently working within a smaller SME who enjoys being close to the numbers, understands how a business actually operates and wants the opportunity to step up and make the finance function their own.

This isn’t a role where you’ll sit above the detail.

Initially, you’ll be getting properly involved, improving the bookkeeping processes, sorting out coding and reporting within Xero and making sure the foundations are right.

Once they are, there is plenty of scope to develop the role into forecasting, management information, Board reporting and wider systems integration.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll take ownership of the finance function, including:

* Managing and maintaining the day-to-day accounts within Xero

* Improving coding, bookkeeping processes and overall data quality

* Ensuring costs and income are correctly allocated across projects as well as the P&L

* Producing accurate monthly management accounts

* Developing stronger cashflow forecasting and financial planning

* Producing clear, useful information for the MD and Board

* Managing VAT, reconciliations, journals and general accounting processes

* Working with external accountants on year-end accounts, tax and compliance

* Supporting project accounting and financial reporting

* Helping the business get much more from Xero

* Over time, supporting the integration of finance with CRM and reporting tools such as Hub Spot and Fathom

Who are we looking for?

You don’t need to be an established Finance Director.

In fact, this could be an excellent opportunity for someone who has built a strong grounding in SME finance and is now ready for more ownership and responsibility.

You might currently be a:

Finance Manager | Management Accountant | Senior Management Accountant | Financial Controller

You’ll ideally have:

* Strong, practical Xero experience

* Experience working within an SME environment

* Good management accounting and cashflow forecasting experience

* Confidence getting involved in the detail, including reconciliations, coding and bookkeeping processes

* An understanding of project accounting or experience within a project, manufacturing, engineering or job-shop environment would be particularly useful

* The ability to improve processes rather than simply maintain what is already there

* Confidence communicating financial information to non-finance colleagues and senior management

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who enjoys rolling their sleeves up.

The business needs someone who can get the foundations right first, then use those foundations to build better forecasting, reporting and financial insight.
