Planning, Monitoring and Enforcement Officer

Are you looking for a challenging and wide ranging role in development management to start your planning career? Nottinghamshire County Council is looking for someone who has graduated or is working towards a degree in planning, geography, geology, environmental sciences or other related subject.

Our planning responsibilities cover minerals and waste development as well as a range of our own projects such as the expansion of schools and local infrastructure. Knowledge and experience of minerals and waste planning is not essential as you will have the support of a small team of experienced officers to help you. You will gain experience in managing a caseload of planning applications for a range of developments which the County Council has the responsibility to determine.

In addition, you will also get out to operational sites across the county to ensure developments granted planning permission by the County Council are operating in compliance with the permissions, and also help deal with complaints relating to breaches of planning control including assisting with investigation and any follow-up action. There are also opportunities to do work across the wider Planning Group as we begin the review of our Minerals Local Plan.

The role offers the opportunity to get involved with some of the key planning issues of the day, supporting the Government’s growth agenda by helping to deliver the minerals needed to build new houses and the waste management facilities which treat waste as a resource. You will also get involved in delivering significant biodiversity net gain through the restoration of quarries across the county.

The post also provides you with the opportunity to gain funding for post-graduate studies to help you progress your career in planning.

Nottinghamshire County Council strives to ensure that it goes beyond the requirements of the Equalities Act and prides itself on being accredited as a Disability Confident Leader Organisation.

Under the Disability Confident scheme (formerly known as the Guaranteed Interview Scheme) we would like to ensure applicants with disabilities are offered an interview if they meet the minimum criteria for a job.

Please let us know if this is something you would like to be considered for.

A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.

Nottinghamshire County Council strongly encourages applications from all candidates from different walks of life, irrespective of gender, marital status, disability, race, religion, belief, pregnancy and maternity status, age or sexual orientation.
