Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Clinical Lead to join our Mental Health Team at HMP Whatton, a category C Prison located in Nottinghamshire. HMP Whatton is a male adult prison with a capacity of 827. As a Senior Mental Health Nurse you will join a team of 4. Ideally we are looking for someone who has experience in a prison or secure environment but it is not essential.
Hours- Monday - Friday
- 37.5 hours per week
- 8 am – 4 pm
- 1 weekend in 4
This position is full time. You will receive an annual salary between £43,609 and £49,175 per annum, FTE, depending on experience.

- Work within a multi-disciplinary team carrying out comprehensive assessments, initiating and reviewing care plans, and developing treatment options.
- Undertake medication rounds and assess and treat patients who may have undergone traumatic experiences.
- Assess patient health needs using an evidence-based framework and conduct risk assessments using sound clinical knowledge.
- Provide advice, support, and information, managing a caseload of patients.
- Deliver non-judgemental care that makes a real difference.
- Monitor therapeutic responses to medication and potential side effects, liaising with prescribers as required.
- Inspire excellence by forging strong links with partners and stakeholders.
- Promote best practice, clinical supervision, and evidence-based care.
- Share knowledge, skills and expertise to ensure safe care, building strong multi-disciplinary teams, and supporting each other to do a great job.
- Qualified Mental Health Nurse – NMC registration.
- Evidence of continued professional development.
- Experience of working with patients, face to face, who have complex mental health conditions.
- Experience of psychosocial interventions, group work and awareness of substance misuse.
- Experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.
