About the Role
The Liaison and Diversion Team provides an all-vulnerability service to improve health and social outcomes for children and adults who are in contact with the criminal justice system. This embedded clinical service operates within the Magistrates Court, delivering screening, assessment and management of vulnerable individuals, and ensuring good information sharing across agencies.
Key Responsibilities- Provide consultation, advice, support and recommendations to court departments and criminal justice agencies to manage defendants’ vulnerabilities.
- Produce high quality court reports and referrals to onward services.
- Act as a seamless link between health and social care services and the criminal justice service.
- Collaborate with police custody suites and Crown Court to communicate identified vulnerabilities and secure onward referrals into appropriate health, social or prison settings.
- Deliver awareness and training on Mental Health Treatment Requirements and Part3 of the Mental Health Act to partner agencies.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to support the needs of individuals accessing the service and work effectively with criminal justice agencies.
- Relevant professional qualification (e.g., mental health nurse, social worker, occupational therapist, psychologist).
- Registration with the relevant professional body (e.g., NMC, HCPC).
- Experience working with a broad, diverse range of individuals with vulnerabilities.
- Extensive multi‑agency working experience.
- Strong ability to maintain boundaries.
- Proficiency in using computerized systems.
- Capability to challenge discriminatory practice.
- Non‑judgmental, respectful and culturally competent approach towards people within the criminal justice system.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, prioritisation and organisational skills.
Understanding of safeguarding risks, confidentiality, and professional responsibilities; knowledge of Mental Health/Human Rights Act systems and legislation; awareness of the interface between health, social care and criminal justice systems.
