Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a talented individual to join the surgical pharmacy team as a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist for cancer surgery and surgical specialities.

In this post you will lead the pharmacy service provision to patients undergoing specialist surgery at NUH, including our tertiary referral centres for thoracics, burns, urology, breast & sarcoma surgery. You will work as part of the pharmacy team delivering clinical care to these patients, many of whom are undergoing surgery as part of their cancer treatment.

The job will be based at the City Hospital campus where you will work as part of the MDT providing high quality medicines reconciliation and pharmaceutical knowledge. The post holder will work with the other members of the MDT to perform medicines optimisation, including deprescribing and prevention of harm from inappropriate polypharmacy. You would also be involved in improving prescribing and reducing risks within the wider healthcare team , attending governance meetings and MDT meetings in your given area.

In addition the post holder will also work within the wider pharmacy surgical team, receiving and giving support to the other team members and trainees.

1) To partake in specialist clinical pharmacy duties ensuring core clinical pharmacy activities are undertaken specifically a. To lead, deliver and develop clinical pharmacy services to the Cancer surgical wards and specialities within NUH. To implement medicines management policies and ensure the safe, clinically effective and cost-efficient use of medicines in this service/speciality in accordance with national priorities and local objectives.

b. To provide patients and members of the multidisciplinary team with information about new drugs and developments to facilitate their safe and effective use. c. To provide a clinical pharmacy service to inpatient ward areas

  • B.Pharm/ BSc (Pharmacy) or MPharm
  • GPhC registered
  • Clinical diploma or equivalent
  • Independent prescriber
  • Evidence of CPD undertaken
Experience
  • Extensive hospital pharmacy experience (post registration) & wide knowledge base
  • Experience of training and education of both pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals
  • Experience of leadership and management skills
  • Experience of developing and implementing medicines and service related policies for a specialty
  • Experience of cancer services and other specialist areas eg burns, urology
  • Experience in undertaking, supervising and reporting/presenting audit / research work at local (Trust) level
