Head of Software Engineering

Head of Engineering | Software Architecture | SaaS Platform | Hybrid

We’re looking for an experienced Head of Engineering to take ownership of technical architecture, engineering execution, and delivery performance across a complex, multi-product SaaS platform operating in a real-world, regulated environment.

This role sits at the heart of the business. You will act as principal architect and engineering leader, defining the long-term software, data, and systems architecture while ensuring the organisation delivers reliable, scalable, and commercially impactful technology at pace.

You’ll lead a multidisciplinary engineering function of approximately 25 engineers, spanning mobile, web, backend, data, hardware integrations, and AI. You will own how systems are designed, how teams ship, and how platforms scale, setting clear architectural principles, technical standards, and engineering best practices across the organisation.

Working closely with Product leadership, you’ll translate roadmap ambition into technically sound, well-sequenced delivery — balancing platform evolution, technical debt, performance, security, and speed. In partnership with Operations and Commercial teams, you’ll ensure engineering decisions directly support customer outcomes, retention, and revenue growth.

This is a hands-on leadership role at the architectural level. While you won’t be coding day-to-day, you’ll be comfortable engaging deeply in system design, data models, platform decisions, and critical technical trade-offs, particularly where scalability, reliability, or long-term maintainability are at stake.

You’ll be responsible for:

Defining and evolving end-to-end software and data architecture across web, mobile, backend services, event-driven systems, integrations, analytics, and AI

Owning delivery predictability, engineering quality, and execution velocity across multiple teams

Establishing strong engineering processes, governance, and technical standards to support scale

Building and developing high-performing engineering leaders and teams

Partnering at leadership and board level to communicate technical strategy, risks, and delivery progress clearly to non-technical stakeholders
