Cyber Security Engineer – Managed Service Provider

Salary: £40,000–£50,000 (flexible for the right person)
OverviewA growing Managed Service Provider is looking for a Cyber Security Engineer to join their technical team. This role is ideal for someone coming from a service desk or infrastructure MSP background who has taken on cyber security responsibilities and now wants to specialise further in security, while still leveraging strong IT foundations.
You’ll work across multiple customer environments, handling cyber security tickets, monitoring security platforms, and supporting customers in improving their overall security posture.
Key Responsibilities- Handle and respond to cyber security incidents and tickets across customer environments.
- Monitor, investigate, and respond to alerts from MDR and SIEM platforms.
- Administer and support Microsoft Defender (Endpoint, Identity, Office 365, Cloud Apps).
- Support ITDR initiatives
, identity protection, and endpoint security controls. - Assist customers with Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus
, including remediation. - Work closely with infrastructure engineers to ensure secure system and cloud configurations.
- Maintain clear documentation, incident reports, and security recommendations.
This position suits a Security Engineer with a strong IT support/infrastructure background
, ideally within an MSP.
- Managing cyber security alerts and incidents.
- Experience with MDR platforms and security operations processes.
- SIEM monitoring and investigation.
- ITDR tools and concepts.
- Knowledge of Cyber Essentials / CE+ requirements.
- Microsoft 365 administration and security.
- Endpoint and device security management.
- Understanding of server, networking, and cloud fundamentals.
- MSP experience strongly preferred.
Desirable Experience
- Supporting or leading Cyber Essentials / CE+ assessments
. - Security hardening of endpoints, servers, and Microsoft 365 tenants.
- Involvement in security tooling deployments (Defender, MDR, SIEM onboarding).
- Experience working across both security and infrastructure functions.
- Exposure to audits, investigations, or incident response processes.
- Security-focused but pragmatic, with a strong understanding of IT environments.
- Comfortable communicating with customers and internal technical teams.
- Proactive, organised, and keen to grow a career in cyber security.
- Able to prioritise and remain calm when dealing with incidents.
- Training and certification support (Cyber Essentials, Microsoft Security, etc.).
- Clear progression opportunities within cyber security and infrastructure teams.
