PhD in Digital Heritage Storytelling and Co-Creation with Older Communities

Nottingham Trent University
· Collaboratory Research Hub

England, United Kingdom

Apply by 29 Nov 2026

About This Opportunity

This fully funded Collaboratory PhD explores how digital heritage, storytelling and participatory co-creation can strengthen social connection among older communities while addressing digital exclusion and age-friendly access to cultural heritage. Applications close on 29 November 2026 at 23:59 GMT.

The project works with older communities to investigate whether digital heritage and co-created storytelling can reduce social isolation while making cultural participation more inclusive. Heritage settings such as Nottingham's City of Caves provide a context for participatory design, where older adults can help shape digital or immersive experiences rather than simply consume them. The research will examine digital-exclusion barriers and develop a framework for age-friendly heritage co-creation.

It is jointly supported by Nottingham Trent University, the University of Nottingham and the National Justice Museum, giving the researcher access to academic, community and heritage-sector perspectives.
