Job PurposeThe Job Evaluation Analyst is responsible for delivering fair, consistent and evidence-based job evaluation activity across the organisation. The postholder will assess roles using recognised job evaluation methodologies, including NJC (National Joint Council) and Hay schemes, ensuring that roles are evaluated accurately and in line with organisational policies, equality principles and pay and reward frameworks.
The role involves analysing job information, providing professional advice and guidance to managers and HR colleagues, supporting evaluation appeals, and contributing to the continuous improvement of job evaluation processes and the wider pay and reward service.
Key Responsibilities- Undertake job evaluations across a wide range of roles throughout the organisation, including schools, using NJC and Hay job evaluation methodologies.
- Analyse job descriptions, Job Description Questionnaires (JDQs), organisational information and supporting evidence to determine appropriate evaluation outcomes.
- Apply job evaluation frameworks, procedures and local conventions consistently to ensure fair and transparent decisions.
- Prepare evaluation documentation and present findings to job evaluation panels where required.
- Provide advice and guidance to managers, HR colleagues and stakeholders on job evaluation processes, outcomes and requirements.
- Respond to queries and requests for clarification, explaining evaluation decisions and rationale in a clear and professional manner.
- Support moderation activities by providing evidence-based reasoning for evaluation outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records, audit trails and evaluation data to ensure decisions are properly documented and traceable.
- Contribute to the review and improvement of job evaluation processes, systems, guidance materials and documentation.
- Support the development of trainee analysts through knowledge sharing, coaching and guidance where appropriate.
- Build effective working relationships with managers, HR colleagues and trade union representatives, supporting positive partnership working.
- Contribute to wider pay and reward projects as required.
- Provide support to senior job evaluation colleagues and deputise for the Senior Job Evaluation/Quality Assurance role when required.
- Deliver accurate, consistent and defensible job evaluation and appeal outcomes.
- Apply professional judgement when assessing roles within agreed evaluation frameworks.
- Ensure compliance with NJC and Hay job evaluation schemes, equality requirements and organisational policies.
- Provide clear and professional advice to managers and stakeholders on grading and evaluation matters.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, confidentiality and attention to detail.
- Manage a workload of evaluation cases effectively, prioritising tasks to meet deadlines and service requirements.
- Identify and escalation complex or high-risk cases appropriately.
- Contribute to maintaining a credible, consistent and trusted job evaluation service.
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience of undertaking job evaluations or working within a structured analytical HR environment.
- Experience applying job evaluation methodologies or working with grading and pay frameworks.
- Knowledge or experience of Hay Guide Chart and NJC job evaluation schemes.
- Understanding of equality, fairness and consistency principles in relation to pay and grading decisions.
- Awareness of employment and equal pay principles.
- Experience analysing complex information, evidence and data to reach reasoned conclusions.
- Experience providing advice and guidance to managers or stakeholders.
- Experience working within defined procedures, policies and structured processes.
Experience with in a local authority or public sector environment would be desirable.
