Job Overview

Thurrock CVS is looking for a Voluntary Sector Development Officer to support our Infrastructure & Community Development team in developing and strengthening Thurrock’s voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector.

The role will support three key infrastructure pillars: leadership and advocacy, partnerships and collaboration, and capacity building, helping local organisations to build resilience, develop their skills and structures, access funding and strengthen their sustainability.

A key responsibility will be to administer the Thurrock Community Fund and Youth Social Action Fund, overseeing the administration and governance, and working with colleagues and partners to maximise their impact.

We are looking for someone with experience in supporting VCFSE organisations, including grant applications, funding, training and organisational development.

This is a varied role requiring tenacity, initiative and excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with a genuine commitment to supporting people and communities.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • You’ll administer the Thurrock Community Fund and Youth Social Action Fund, including managing application processes, receiving and processing applications, organising funding panels, coordinating awards and overseeing monitoring and reporting requirements.
  • You’ll assist with the development of groups and organisations to strengthen their governance, capacity and sustainability.
  • You’ll help coordinate training and workshops that build skills and confidence across the sector.
  • You’ll support regular networking opportunities, for example ‘Let’s Talk’, networking brunches, and ad hoc events to inform and promote organisations and seek collaborations opportunities.
  • You’ll assist voluntary and community organisations to access project funding, including supporting funding fairs delivered in collaboration with partners and funders.
  • You’ll undertake regular surveys to capture the worth and current picture of the sector.
  • You’ll increase the membership of Thurrock CVS to ensure it is representative of the sector across Thurrock
  • You’ll liaise and work closely with other members from the Infrastructure team to ensure that information is disseminated into the wider community and voluntary sector.
