Job Overview

Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse – Children’s Neurosciences/Spinal Ward (E40)

Location:

Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham

Contract:

Permanent, Full-time (part‑time applications considered)

Hours:

37.5 per week (minimum 30)

Salary: £39,959 – £48,117 per annum (pro‑rata for part‑time)

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support a nursing team to deliver exceptional, holistic care for children and young people with complex neurological conditions.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure a patient‑centred, high‑standard clinical approach.
  • Maintain safe, evidence‑based practice and uphold quality and safety standards.
  • Provide compassionate, empathetic support to patients, families and staff.
  • Coordinate patient care, manage ward activities, and deputise for the Ward Manager.
  • Facilitate clinical audits, continuous improvement initiatives and staff rostering.
  • Serve as key contact for patients, visitors, relatives and staff, representing patient perspectives.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Current Level One NMC registration RN (Child) or RSCN.
  • Degree in nursing or currently undertaking one (or equivalent experience).
  • Completed IV and CVL competency packages.
  • Formal leadership and management training.
  • Experience in supervising non‑registered staff, students and mentoring.
  • Ability to manage ward operations and provide leadership to a team.
  • Experience caring for children with life‑limiting conditions and in a high‑dependency setting.
  • Competence in audit, research or link‑nurse activities within the speciality.
Skills and Attributes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, basic IT proficiency.
  • Strong organisational, prioritisation and judgement skills.
  • Proactive problem‑solving and ability to implement effective interventions.
  • Physical capability to perform nursing duties and manual handling.
  • Commitment to continual learning and professional development.
