Position: Pinetum & Riverside Horticulturalist (FTC sept 2027)

Overview of the Role

Do you want to be part of something amazing, and join the UK's leading horticultural charity? A place where we are driven by a sheer love of plants and the belief that gardeners make the world a better place, and where you will be working alongside some of the best horticulturists in the country.

RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey is the RHS's flagship garden and one of the most popular in the country, attracting over one million visitors each year. We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and passionate horticulturists to join our 90-strong garden team, as part of the Woodland Team.

The Welcome and Riverside Team covers some wilder historic areas, with a focus on wildlife and biodiversity. Within its remit are National Collections, drought loving perennials and grasses, iconic horticulture, along with older parts of the garden containing a historic tree collection, one of these being the Pinetum.

The Pinetum and Riverside act as a corridor for wildlife along the River Wey, with this, managing the historic tree collection, planning for trees of the future and gardening it in a wildlife friendly way are vital to support the RHS biodiversity strategy.

As a Horticulturalist you will be responsible for the care, cultivation and maintenance of designated areas of the garden in addition to carrying out the garden's Horticultural Development Plan. You will be helping to drive forward enhancements across the 186-acre garden to make it a treasure trove of plants-personship and creative gardening. We are looking for an individual with a love of horticulture and plants, who possesses a good general knowledge of horticultural practice or relevant specialism and the ability to lead and work effectively as part of a team, with a mindset towards biodiversity.
