Quality Engineering
Overview
Are you a quality-minded individual who has built a career on driving a ‘Right first time’ approach from the ground up, walking the project site, checking finishes, and identifying defects? Do you understand the anatomy of a build inside out, and are you first to notice when something is about to go wrong and can react to mitigate further errors? This role focuses on moving from identifying problems to actively preventing them.
We are looking for someone with a Construction background who can contribute as a Quality Advisor within project teams, shifting focus from reactive reporting to pre-emptive mitigation.
In this role, you will work closely with project site teams and Stepnells Supply Chain. You are not just identifying defects; you are an architect of the project’s success, ensuring the Golden Thread of information is verifiable, robust, and recorded. You will be the technical lead who helps site managers and trade partners plan for, deliver, and be proud of their right first time work.
Responsibilities- Engineering Quality into the Build:
You’ll engage with Trade Quality Plans (TQPs) and Quality Risk Evaluations (QREs) before any material hits the site to prevent and mitigate quality risk. You’ll support the creation of quality method statements, inspection and testing plans, and ensure site teams are prepared to deliver. - Proactive Mitigation:
You will support high-risk trades early, verifying they have the competence and capacity on site to deliver work right first time. - Technical Authority:
When site issues arise, you are the technical lead. You don’t just log an NCR—you identify the root cause and support corrective action planning and collaboration that gets the project back on track and verifies completed work. - Mentorship:
You’ll be the person the Site Managers and supply chain supervision look to for technical backing when the pressure is on. You will mentor our teams to embed quality as a core operational discipline.
- Construction Literacy:
We are looking for a seasoned professional. A member of, or working towards joining the CWCI, NVQ Level 5 or equivalent in construction site inspection is advantageous. - Good communicator:
You can hold your own in a room with subcontractors and design teams. You respect the trade, but you refuse to compromise on Stepnell quality standards. - Driven:
If you’re looking for a role that challenges your technical knowledge and rewards your ability to take ownership of project quality, please contact our Recruitment Team.
