We are inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow to join iBreed, an ambitious research programme funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, focused on the development of a novel in vitro gametogenesis platform.

The iBreed programme is a collaborative project between research groups led by Professor Ramiro Alberio at the University of Nottingham and Dr Tom Burdon and Professor Ian Adams at the University of Edinburgh (The Roslin Institute). The project aims to apply state‑of‑the‑art stem cell and developmental biology approaches to generate bovine gametes, addressing fundamental questions in reproduction while delivering tools with significant translational potential.

You will join a highly interactive, interdisciplinary team and contribute to cutting‑edge research at the interface of developmental biology, stem cell biology and reproductive technologies. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across the Nottingham and Edinburgh teams and will be encouraged to develop independent ideas within the broader aims of the programme.

Candidate profile

You will have a strong scientific background in one or more of the following areas:

  • Developmental biology and/or stem cell biology
  • Organ or tissue culture systems
  • Gene editing or genetic manipulation

You will be highly motivated, proactive and self‑driven, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment. The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in cell biology, developmental biology or a closely related discipline; candidates who are nearing submission of their PhD thesis in a relevant area will also be considered.

A track record of peer‑reviewed publications is desirable. Experience in cellular differentiation protocols, bioinformatics, or quantitative data analysis would be an advantage but is not essential.

This is a fixed term position until 22 October 2027. Possibility of extension is subject to funding approval . This is a full‑time post.
